EMERGENCY ULTRASOUND ELECTIVE

Training in Emergency “Point of Care” Ultrasound (POCUS) is available at OPMC for all levels of medical education.  Our Ultrasound Director will individually tailor the rotation to meet your needs (and requests) with specific emphasis on skills required by your ultimate medical specialty.

Rotations in POCUS span from 2-4 weeks and include the fundamentals of Emergency Ultrasound as well as advanced scanning skills and US guided procedures.  Students and residents will receive comprehensive didactics given personally by the US Director as well as hands-on instruction from several EM staff physicians, senior EM Residents, and seasoned Ultrasound and ECHO technicians. EM Residents learn POCUS as a “Core Competency” during their residency but several other specialties are now embracing and seeking training in US as well.

Many residents from other services (IM, TY, FP, etc) and doctors destined for exclusive subspecialties (Critical Care, Nephrology, Cardiology, Endocrinology) have all benefited from this training.  Come join us on the cutting edge of bedside diagnostic technology.
