EMERGENCY ULTRASOUND ELECTIVE
Training in emergency point of care ultrasound (POCUS) is available at OPMC for medical students. Our ultrasound rotation is designed for medical students, EM residents and residents from other specialties including family medicine.
The focus of this rotation is to provide as much hands-on ultrasound scanning as possible. We have daily lectures to discuss all of the core ultrasound topics, followed by scanning in the emergency department with an ultrasound faculty member. We also utilize our high fidelity ultrasound simulation trainer to practice techniques and to introduce learners to a wide range of pathology. During the rotation, we will cover basic bedside ultrasound skills as well as more advanced topics such as nerve blocks and transesophageal echo. No prior ultrasound training is required for this rotation.
